This month’s shared practice meeting will discuss Using automation technology for museum climate control and energy management.
Traditional climate control in cultural institutions maintains conditions at constant levels, but at a high energy cost. This session presents how research at Eindhoven University of Technology shows that dynamic climate control enables museums and archives to reduce energy use while improving preventive conservation. Real-world case studies from leading museums show energy savings of 30–70% in air handling alongside enhanced climate performance.
The barrier to moving away from the ‘ideal’ 70˚C / 50% RH isn’t just aged hardware, but also confidence in results and the complexity of implementation.
In this session Rick Kramer (CEO, Dyseco) will present on Bridging Legacy Infrastructure and Modern Sustainability Targets without Rip & Replace Costs, which includes two case studies that illustrate the potential shift to flexible climate control that balances collection preservation and energy efficiency.
Join us to share your perspectives and hear how other cultural facility managers are addressing these challenges. All cultural staff and business partners are welcome to participate.
Please take the short shared practice survey on this topic – it will only take a few minutes and your input is greatly appreciated. Upon completion you will go to the meeting registration form (and all participants get the survey results whether they can attend the meeting or not).
