From Data to Decisions: Building a Dynamic Capital Planning & FCI Simulation Tool in Power BI (Demo)

Utility Facility Shared Practice Meeting

  • June 23, 2026
  • 3:00 pm Eastern / 12:00 pm Pacific
  • What is this in your local time?

This session showcases a custom-built Power BI tool that transforms asset data into actionable capital planning insights. Attendees will see how dynamic filtering, condition-based logic, and interactive selection enable real-time simulation of replacement strategies and their impact on Facility Condition Index (FCI). The Case Study by Shoham Brunshteyn, Sr. Asset Management Data Analyst will highlight practical techniques for handling complex asset hierarchies, prioritization logic, and user-driven scenario analysis within a scalable reporting framework.
Utility facility organizations now generate more operational data than ever before through CMMS systems, BAS platforms, energy-management systems, smart devices, sustainability reporting tools, and financial systems. This month’s shared-practice discussion will one example of how to use tools such as Microsoft Power BI to move from “data collection” toward “decision support.”
