Metrics of Value for Research Facility Managers

With all the data and systems available to facility managers these days, there is a great deal of interest in having useful KPIs and metrics. Because there are multiple "dimensions" to facilities, organizations use a range of metrics to get a complete view, especially if they use a triple bottom line approach.

1. Space and Occupancy show/hide

Space and Occupancy metrics describe the amount of space, its use, the occupancy of the facilities, and how well they support the organization mission.

2. Operating Costs show/hide

Facility Operating Costs metrics are used to identify the annual costs of having the facilities and assess the efficiency of their operation. For this survey, we are only considering "hard costs" of operating the facilities (and indirect costs of administration and support) but not the "soft costs" of providing services for facility occupants.
