National Benchmarking is intended for any Utility organization that is willing to gather facility data in a
common format and share it with other utilities. The group has been benchmarking each year since 1995. Many of
the participants are trending their performance using these metrics.
New benchmarking issues and surveys have been added this year including:
Churn, Wage and Salary, and Service Continuity.

2010
Participants |
In 2008, 45 companies participated in the Utility Council National Benchmarking
Program. More than 90 percent of our participants repeat each year so we
expect a similar or greater level of participation for 2010. |

due dates. Make plans to attend both the Spring and Fall Utility Council
Meetings to obtain the maximum benefit from benchmarking. |

Customer
Surveys |
The Utility Council also measures
customer satisfaction with a standardized customer satisfaction survey. In 2008
about 50 percent of the participants utilized the standardized customer survey. |

The Utility Council uses a Standard set of Survey definitions that include benchmarking issues for: Space Data,
Utilities, Building Maintenance, Custodial, Parking, Grounds, Building Security, and Fixed Occupancy Costs. You can see
sample charts from all of the major areas on the website. |
Benchmarking Objectives...
Our objectives are:

To determine the related normalized facility costs, utilities, and services to support a business. The study measures and links
costs of the services provided with a subjective evaluation by the customer on the quality of those services.
- To provide a method to measure our effectiveness
- To find strengths and weaknesses
- To create an awareness of best practices
- To challenge business-as-usual methods
- To establish goals for further improvements
- To facilitate discussions on best practices between organizations
Participant Agreement...
- Participants are defined as those parties completing the "Participant Registration Form."
- Benchmarking data is confidential and for the exclusive use by the participants and their agents.
- Disclosure of the data and report contents to non-participants is prohibited.
- Disclosure of company codes to those participants that are ineligible to receive them is prohibited.
- Benchmarking data will be provided by participants per the agreed upon schedule.
- Benchmarking data and report information will be made available to the participants as follows:
- Those providing data will receive a roster containing the company codes.
- Those that do not provide data will not be provided a roster that contains the company codes.
- New participants will receive a copy of the previous year's benchmarking report without company codes.
